Fightstar favourite Charlie Simpson came to Academy 2 this evening, and I had the pleasure of shooting the show AND grabbing some portrait shots beforehand.
If you haven’t had chance to hear any of Charlies solo material then I suggest you do so. Young Pilgrim is the name of the album, and it could just be up there as one of my favourites of 2011.

It’s a sell out in the Toon tonight and there’s a lot of hype for this evening, in particular for Avenged Sevenfold. As the lights go out and their intro hits, the curtain thats been disguising the stage since the exit of Stone Sour suddenly drops. We’ve got a fully fledged graveyard (complete with headstones and flame throwers), and the whole place is filled with smoke. Synester Gates slowly walks on stage performing the intro to Nightmare, and the whole place erupts

Paolo Nutini appears to be a bit of a musical chamelon to me at times. His first album ‘These Streets‘ put him firmly in the camp of ‘safe’ songwriting legends such as (*cough cough* ah-hem *cough cough*) David Gray and James Blunt, but his new album ‘Sunny Side Up‘ crosses many a genre boundary and is probably enough for now to keep him a little bit different from the pack. One things for sure, he’s adored by his fans !

Dizzee Rascal may be more pop idol than underground grime hero at the minute, but it’s been a long slog for the boy from East London and he’s had to win non-believers (such as myself) round on his way to the top.
