Sleazy dirty riffs are the name of the game for the HB camp - loud and proud! Ladies and Gentlemen, Heavens Basement are my tip for the breakout band of 2009.

In an all seater venue like City Hall, most bands would assume their role of support act obediently and chug through a half hour set without trying to disturb the patrons too much.

Not Heavens Basement .

By the end of song three, Sid is shirtless as he tears apart the stage (its been a while since I’ve seen such a promising young guitar hero in the making - maybe even since that guy with curly black hair and the tophat, whats his name again?) and Richie is politely informing the audience that he’ll make them all stand up one by one if he has to. Johny, Rob and Chris all hold their arms aloft, beckoning the crowd to join the party and City Hall is just another venue thats been steamrollered by HB’s wall of sound.

To be fair, I shouldnt have been surprised. The first time I saw the band was supporting Bon Jovi in Manchester, and the reaction they got there was equally as good - and then to personify what the ban is all about, the next time I saw them was in a dinghy corner of a bar in Middlesbrough. The thing is - these guys just don’t care. If theres a place to play, they’ll play it as hard as the possibly can.

If they continue to work hard and produce sets as good as this, it won’t be long before they are selling out Stadiums themselves, and it wont be a moment too soon.

Check them out guys please, do yourself a favour.
