04/11/2008 – Alter Bridge @ Sheffield O2 Academy
Posted by john on Tuesday Nov 25, 2008 Under Past gigsFor anybody whos read my About Page, you will know that Alter Bridge were the catalyst in my concert photography adventure. Stood in the photo pit when the band start ripping through ‘Find the real’, things have come full circle!
I’d been waiting for this one for a while. Alter Bridge are easily in my top three bands at the minute, due mainly to the cohesion that is driving them further to the front of the scene termed ‘American rock’. Ironically, its here in the UK where they seem to be best received.
For a band that hadnt played together in a month (tonight was the first night of the tour), you wouldnt have known any different. The dynamics within the band work so well together. Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy are two of the finest players around, but the underrated Phillips/Marshall parternship is really starting to come into its own these days. Song for song, there are very few who can combine melodies and brutalilty the way Alter Bridge can.
Lighting for this gig was amazing. It looks like Alter Bridge have been investing in some serious new hardware, and the colour washes were beautiful. Gig was shot with the 10-22 and 24-70, hardest part was to stop grinning like an idiot all the time and remembering to take photos.
